The INSITE Phase 1 research identified the need for high quality data to describe the ecosystem in the North Sea and enhance the scientific outcomes. In addition to a Science Programme building on the Phase 1 research, Phase 2 also includes a ground breaking Data Initiative to establish a robust process to facilitate the sharing of industry data to support the research.
Access to and sharing of industry held data is a cornerstone of the second phase of the INSITE programme now underway. Geo-referencing industry held ecology data relating offshore installations and structures will be an indispensable tool.
INSITE Interactive is a map based tool which holds meta data from existing surveys. Still under development, the tool will be made available on request to scientists interested in the recently pre-annouced NERC call to come later this year.
